but I like being a tryhard
I don't really mind items in general but I just really dislike randomly dying because someone randomly rolled some godly assist. If I die it must be because I got stomped by someone that outplayed me

If you don't like the utterly chaotic nature of smash bro's at its core than you don't like smash bro's

I'm a super casual player, as in literally only play when one of my friends invites me too every few years, so this ^

I don't even know my own moves, much less what the random brightly colored junk is my opponent just pulled out and what button to hit to not commit instant dead.

Even Mario Kart can't match the randomness of Smash with items on. There are entire montages of item chaos where the worst thing you'll see in mario kart is one guy getting sent from first to last from getting slammed with items. There's an item in smash that basically is equivalent to sending your opponents back an entire lap in mario kart, aka the flag that gives you a free stock.

just have that speaker thing ready with a banana in first slot, its fine

I'd like to add that i'm not a total tryhard in that don't use a gamecube controller and I play whatever character I like regardless of any tierlist

I just prefer having a battle of skill rather than luck

Same here, but I do use a gamecube controller. Played that way since melee, then brawl. Couldn't afford it for wiiu, but its nice that you can do this with the switch. I think its a good thing, since I'm never running out of controllers for my old console, hah.

That aside, ---- tier lists. We play who we want, right?

You want true casual, I mostly play Wii Fit Trainer cause she's the only one I sort of know the moves...

well I do like a good match and I'm pretty close to elitesmash with both jiggly and ganon on battlefield/omega stages without items. So I wouldn't say true casual

I can understand that. It's precisely why nintendo has all these settings to fine tune the game to anyone's taste.
But their main ---- in stuff like this are party games, games made to be fun with a group of people regardless of if they've held a controller before, and luck based chaos suits that much more

Nintendo actually tries to balance out luck based chance in Smash much more than their other party lines. Their three big party series are Smash, Mario Kart and Mario Party and each one uses different systems and amounts of pure luck to try and make the games interesting.

Mario Kart is very little luck: the game is all about negative feedback loops in that if you do really well the game will do everything to try and make you fumble. It's hard coded into the game that the bigger the lead first place has the better the items everyone behind them gets. The further you are the from first (both place wise and literal progress round the track) the better items you get. This is so that no matter how skilled you are a total newbie will always have some chance, even though he skilled player will probably still win it's never a given

Mario Party is the other end of the spectrum being almost all luck based. Sure you might do amazingly on the mi---ames but if your dice rolls and the choices the AI makes with map layout/which mi---ame are against you it can make the game totally unwinnable. It's pure chaos and it's a ---htmare.

Smash (with hazards and items and final smash meters) is a middle ground. If a player is getting their ass beat (but doesn't die) their smash meter builds super fast, if they do die their health resets and they're harder to launch. Stage hazards can be circumvented with skill or even weaponized if you're very clever. Items though are a total crapshoot. Getting your ass handed to you and you pick up a pokeball? It could be a goldeen. Have a 2 stock lead and grab a random assist? Maybe it's galagar. Who the ---- knows.
